This is going to hurt typing …. but …. here goes…. I’m getting older.
Okay so I know I’ve still got a lot of years ahead of me yet, but yes, I am getting older and I have really noticed the difference in my skin because of this.
Let me take you back to 7 to 8 years ago, it didn’t matter that I slept in my make up the odd time (don’t judge me!) or used those make up wipes that my mum told me to never use, nor did it matter that I went out till the early hours of the morning every weekend and hardly drank any water, but low and behold, this all catches up with you and the things I used to do and get away with back then are the things I am gradually getting away with less and less now.
However this being said it’s January and this is the month for change, I am looking at this as a positive wake up call, a wake up call that will make me take care of my skin and will hopefully allow my skin to thank me for when I look back in another 7 to 8 years. So here’s the changes I have made so far and the differences I have seen along with them….
THOROUGHLY REMOVING MY MAKEUP
Guilty as charged…..
Okay so I do try my hardest to be as good as possible with removing make up – you know the drill people, cleanse, tone, moisturise, but life sometimes gets in the way. I was always on the look out for something a lot quicker and easier, something that wouldn’t need several different products and most importantly, something that thoroughly removed my make up. Those of you who follow me on Instagram will know that I have found all that and more in Cliniques Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm, so what is it?! When massaged onto a dry skin it transforms from a solid balm into a silky, fluid oil. It completely removes every trace of make up whilst leaving the skin beautifully hydrated – best of all you can use it on the eyes.
THE IMPORTANCE OF A GOOD MOISTURISER
Hands up who doesn’t drink enough water?! I seem to have no problem with coffee and wine but it’s that good old H2O that is the real deal. We don’t just need hydration from the inside we can also provide it from the outside to.
It blows my mind that people still don’t moisturise everyday…. makeup looks brighter and lasts longer on a hydrated skin, not too mention all of the skin benefits a good moisturiser has! Skin will be more supple, luminous and that uncomfortable, tight feeling (and I’m not just talking about the waistline after the Christmas splurge) will vanish when using a good moisturiser.
I’ve tried LOADS but always seem to float back to Givenchy Hydra Sparkling Day Cream ….. this is purely a moisturiser for a thirsty skin, it instantly relieves any tightness or dullness and leaves my skin refreshed and luminous. My skin always feels perfectly hydrated and never too oily which for me is the ultimate combination!
INTRODUCING A FACEMASK
I’m guilty of not even doing the basics let alone the add ons that are everywhere in the skin care world, so this year is the time for change, more ‘me time’ and more face masking.
Multi Masking was a huge trend in the skincare market last year and something I kept seeing online. The Facemask world can be a little daunting as every single face mask is for specific concerns. I try to do a facemask at least once a week and the ones I usually go for are the facemask that really detox my skin. My skin always feel brighter and has more clarity to it.
Below are a few of my favourites.
Bobbi Brown Instant Detox Mask is perfect for anyone who gets an excess build up of oil. It purifies the skin a draws out any impurities that are more deep set into the pores – its great after a hectic week in work or doing lots of travelling.
Givenchy Beauty Vax’in Duo Shot Masks in layman terms; Step 1 removes any build up of impurities from the skin and then Step 2 injects all the goodness back in. It’s a 4 week programme and perfect for brides or the build up to an event you may have.
GlamGlow YouthMud A real tingling facemark that you really feel working on the skin. My skin feels super clean after using this, it gets to work on all of your surface dead skin cells to reveal a brighter more ‘youthful’ complexion.
So there you have it, a couple of introductions into my new skin care regime that have made a huge difference in the way my skin looks and feels… Let me know any skincare bits and pieces that have been working for you – I’m always on the look out for some extra bits to try!
